Marangu route happens to be the easiest on Kilimanjaro and have gained the obvious name of the Coca Cola route! It can comfortably be done in 5 days but its advisable to add a reserve day on the way up at Horombo Hut (3720m) for acclamatization.
Accommodation is in the Huts. For those looking for an easy pace, then marangu route offers a quick access up Kili. Summiting Uhuru peak start from Kibo hut(4770m) arriving the crater rim at Gilmans point 5681m in 6hrs.The rest 200m metres are achieved in 1hrs to reach the Top of Africa 5896m.
Day 1: Leave Moshi after breakfast and drive Via Marangu village to Marangu Gate (1985m) where you will start a 5hrs 12km hike to Mandara hut(2700).Dinner and overnight at Mandara Hut.
Day 2: After breakfast take on a 6 hrs 15km trek to Horombo Hut.Picnic lunch is enroute.The views of Kibo appear after the tree level as you approach the open Chaparrel woodland.Arrive early evening for dinner and overnight at Horombo Hut(3700m).
Day 3: Leave Horombo after breakfast and hike for 6 hrs approximately 14.5km across the Saddles of Mawenzi to Kibo Hut, dinner and overnight at Kibo Hut (4774 metres).
Day 4: Early start to the summit at 0000hrs.It takes a challenging 6hrs to reach the crater rim at the Gilmans point 5680m.Continue for an hour Via stella point to reach Uhuru peak 5896m for a timely photographing.Descend slowly back to Kibo hut for breakfast .Continue down ward to break at Horombo for an overnight.
Day 5: Trek downward from Horombo Hut to the Marangu gate for s transfer to Moshi for shower and lunch.Overnight in the Hotel.
What to bring:-warm sleeping bags(preferably -10 degrees), light water-proof hiking boots, warm jacket, fleece jacket, rain gear, wind stoppers, sun glasses, warm gloves, enough pair of cotton socks, inner thermals, head cover, head light, water bottle and other personal items.
The cost for the expedition is US$1850 per person
inclusive:-all park fees, porter crew, all meals during the trek, hut fees, transport to the mountain and back.
