The whisky route happens to be the most adventurous while its less crowded with many hikers prefering the easy cocacola route.
It takes you through the shira plateau where the visibility of the breach wall becomes wild with its massive Kibo Dome pulling closer to your eyes every step of the hike! Stretching Ridges and Valleys are a phenomenon .In a clear sky,its a breath taking up the Barranco Wall and down the wild Karanga Valley.
6 DAYS KILIMANJARO UP AND DOWN MWEKA ROUTES
DAY 1:- Transfer from your hotel to the gate(1490m).From where you walk through the lush forest to the Hut (10,000ft/3000m) Stay /Camp/overnight
DAY 2: Leaving the forest, the path follows a steep ridge passing through Giant heathers and open moorlands and crossing a ridge to reach shira hut (12,500ft/3,840m)Stay/Camp overnight.
DAY 3: You return eastwards and continue ascending through the dry landscape before dropping into Barranco Valley to reach Barranco Camp13,000ft(3950m) stay /Camp overnight.
DAY 4: The path ascends steeply out of the Barranco Valley crosses the karanga Valley, then turn north to reach Barafu hut (15,500ft/4,600m). stay/camp overnight.
DAY 5: Its a long day and an early start to reach the Crater rim at Stella Point(5685m) for sunrise. Continue the ascent 1hour to Uhuru peak ,highest point in Africa. Afterwards descend to Barafu and downward to Mweka hut (3100m)Stay overnight.
DAY 6: Descend to the Mweka park gate (1980m)from where you are transfered back to your hotel in Arusha.
What to bring:-warm sleeping bags(preferably -10 degrees),light water-proof boots, warm jacket, fleece jacket, rain gear, wind stoppers, sun glasses, warm gloves, enough pair of cotton socks, inner thermals, head cover, head light, water bottle and other personal items. Tents of aluminium frames due to strong winds.
The cost for the expedition is US$1950 per person
inclusive:-all park fees, camping fees, rescue fees, porter crew, all meals during the expedition, transport to the mountain and back.
