The park is about 350km north of the capital Nairobi. It covers an area of 165KM square on a semi arid ecosystem. It has distinctive species of animals adopted to the arid habitat of the Northern Kenya. The Park enjoys River Ewaso Ng’iro that flows in the middle playing a role of sustaining life year round. It host crocodiles and feeds the Doum palm trees that grows a long the river bunks. The reserve is home to the famous Lioness that once adopted a baby Orylx .
A variety of animals that are unique in this habitats include Gerenuk, Grevy’s Zebra, Reticulated Girraffe, Grant’s Gazelle, Somali Ostrich, big cats such as Lions, cheeters and Leopards.
DAY 1- Leave Nairobi and drive North passing central Kenya otherwise known us Mount Kenya region. In a clear day the mountain can be seen from a far distance with its highest peaks Batian 5199m and Nelion 5188m piercing through the clouds into a blue sky. Its good to note that the mountain can be accessed by hiking across a vast moorland to a high of 4985m (point Lenana) but the rest can only be technically climbed. Arrive Samburu in time for lunch in the lodge. Take on an evening game drive to sample the game animals found here. Overnight in the lodge.
DAY 2- A day in the samburu reserve.An early morning tour offers the opportunity to see most of the animals before they take refugee in the bushes after the sun gets hot.The region is totally arid and can reach a high of 37°C. Breakfast and lunch are served in the lodge.Evening game drive is usually at 1600hrs till sundown.Besides wildlife the landscape is hilly and mountainous giving spectacular views.
DAY 3- As usual the day kicks off with an early game drive to experience the sunrise in the jungle.The tour driver will focus on territories with rare animals and reaching up to new areas to get the most out of the remaining time. Continue for breakfast before leaving the Samburu region having successfully toured the reserve. There is the option of visiting a typical Samburu people village to learn of their rich culture and traditional entertainments. Exit the park and drive back to Nairobi once again enjoying a dramatic countryside.
The cost for the above tour is $1600 per person for a minimum two persons. Group rates are applicable for five persons and above.
The price caters for all park entry fees,accommodation and meals in lodges,a tour vehicle with a pop-up roof to facilitate game viewing.
